Getting Current when you have been out of the cockpit for the Winter

With Spring coming (it REALLY IS coming, right??), and people getting ready for SnF and other aviation adventures, some of us colder-climate pilots are a little rusty. How do you plan to get back in the pilot’s seat after a few months of not being in the air? What if you’re IFR current, but maybe not so proficient. What do you do BEFORE you head out to the airport to get your head back in the game?

• SIM time?
• Reading?
• Reviewing ACS?
• Reviewing the POH?
• Other?
• What is that first flight going to be? Three landings and you’re good to go, or anything more structured? Slow flight, stalls, short takeoff/landing, ground reference maneuvers? Do you take an instructor or pilot friend? What thought goes into that first preflight?

George Nolly launched his aviation career at 17 while still in high school. An appointment to the Air Force Academy prepared him for his two tours in Vietnam, flying O-2s over the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos and F-4 Phantoms over Hanoi. After his service, George went into commercial aviation, flying for United Airlines as Captain and Flight Instructor for 26 years. After finishing his Doctorate in Homeland Security, George went on to conduct airline safety audits for the for International Air Transport Association on carriers throughout the globe. George continues to instruct on the Boeing 777.

Hold Short of Where? Understanding The New Taxi Procedures. - This article was based on safety reports from 2011. In March of 2014 there was an ATO policy change and update to the pilot controller glossary. The following are links to the taxi diagram and the ATO Policy Change. I was going to change the original article but will rewrite and link to a new article incorporating the changes. Welcome to episode 113! There are many jobs in aviation and some will surprise you. Today I am joined by Paul Grieco and special guest Jennifer Adams. Jenn is an Aviation blogger writing at Tales from the Terminal on all types of Aviation jobs and adventures.

• Why Jennifer became interested in Aviation as a child.
• Working life at a Fortune 500 company while yearning for a job in aviation.

• Landing  an accounting job at her local airport.
