  • Let’s say someone has 250 hours and they’ve just been hired in a GA job. What safety related things should hey be thinking about in the new job?
  • What are some of the hazards that pilots should be aware of?
  • You’re a CFI, what kinds of safety issues should pilots be watching out for if they’re a CFI.
  • What about risk management? What should pilots know about that?

It is now July 2024, and we have been in a hiring slowdown for more than half a year and it is deepening. In January I Discussed 12 Actions To Take During A Hiring Slowdown this year but I also wanted to add some more color to that episode.

Since that episode, we started a group coaching mastermind where we give industry updates on a monthly basis along with an inspirational message, informational topic, and a question and answer session. In today’s episode, I am going to replay the industry update section of the March mastermind group because I think it would be helpful for you to understand the current hiring environment.

If you are interested in joining the mastermind group coaching you can try it for one month for free using the coupon code “CoachItForward” I think it is very helpful and is a nice addition to our on-one coaching because it keeps you inspired, informed, and motivated. Cruise Flight:

Question From A Viewer: What If I Lied On My FAA Medical Application?
Correcting errors on your medical application
No formal process but updates are accepted and processed
Generally, no prosecution for falsifying if correct before the FAA discovers.
Good Ideas For Time Building.
PIC in the system.
Multi-engine SIC or PIC.
Flight Instruction
Instrument Instruction is preferred since this correlates well with the airlines.
Cargo flying for a reputable operator.
Time building with another pilot.
Some hours may be logged as a safety pilot.
Question from viewer: Do the airlines respect flight time as a safety pilot? I have quite a bit of safety pilot time. I know it’s all legal PIC time under 61.51 (e) and 91.109 (b)(c) but I don’t want to get looked at differently by a potential employer because I wasn’t necessarily the sole manipulator of the controls for every single hour of PIC time.
Bad Ideas for Time Building
Illegal Charters
FAA revocation, no insurance
Private planes that become illegal charters
pilots can still lose certificates.
Question from YouTube: In the last video you talk about if it’s not the owner it falls under that 135/121 veil. What about business-owned aircraft flying its associates but the official owner is not aboard the aircraft?
Aircraft Partnerships that become illegal charters
Right seat but not SIC Time
Know what you can log.
Aircraft doesn’t require pic. Professional pilot development.

Question:

Do pilots need to go to training now that the new A321 XLR is starting to fly?

In today’s episode, we answer a question from a listener concerning logging time as a pilot when operating as a flight instructor and as a Part 135 pilot. You might be surprised by what some operators are doing to attract pilots.
